Exciting news! We will be hosting a six week long, fun-filled, summer extravaganza!
Beginning on 23rd July, a series of fun, family activities will take place every day (except Sunday’s) in the newly named ‘Strawberry Square’, formerly Woodcock Square. The Strawberry Square activities will last until 31st August and there will be special events hosted every Saturday.
Strawberry Square will be officially launched by the Mayor of Wigan Borough, Councillor Sue Greensmith at an event on 23 July and visitors to the centre on the first couple of days of festivities will be given the opportunity to plant one of 200 strawberry plants in Strawberry Square. During the course of the next six weeks, the plants will be cared for by our team here at The Galleries and there will be prizes in several categories for the most fruit-full plants including the largest Strawberry of the summer.
On each of the five Saturday’s during the summer holidays, we will also host large scale events to attract shoppers and entertain the whole family. The first, which will be held on the 28th July, will be a Strawberry Festival. Designed to get shoppers into the summer swing, this will be a real opening party with live music and face painters.
Saturday 4th August will have a crafty focus, with a sand-art event taking place at Strawberry Square as well as face painting for children. Taking a similar craft-led approach, the event on the 11th August will see the team create a pottery studio for individuals to try their hand at pottery painting, as well as strawberry painting and more, ever popular face painting!
Set to be one of the most magical of the festivities, the penultimate Saturday on 18th August will see children and adults hypnotised by the wonderfully colourful shapes created from eBublio Magical Bubbles and their giant wands. The workshop will also let the public have a go at making their own giant bubbles.
will see eBublio Magical Bubbles create colourful shapes from giant wants as the bubbles float through the air. The workshop will also let the public have a go at making their own giant bubbles.
To wrap up the summer season, the final event on the 25th August will be throwing a closing party – a second ‘Strawberry Festival’ with live music and face painters.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, in addition to the main Saturday events, there will also be an array of other fun filled activities for families to take part in at the shopping centre. From children’s games, music, colouring in and taking strawberry selfies to taking part in a strawberry trail around the shopping centre, there is plenty to entertain.
Visitors will also be able to meet our very own strawberry mascot who will meet and interact with children between 12 – 12.30pm and 1 – 1.30pm each day. These activities will run every day except Sunday between 23rd July and 31st August.
Victoria Nichol, Centre Manager at The Galleries Shopping Centre, said: “We are so excited about our summer events and cannot wait for them to get underway. We have strived to create a series of festivities that will really engage and entertain visitors of all ages, helping them to experience a summer to remember with their loved ones. We hope lots of people will come along to the centre and join us.”
